The Section of Cognitive Psychology at the Department of Experimental and Applied Psychology (http://www.vupsy.nl/
) teaches and conducts research on many aspects of cognition, focusing on perception, attention, learning and memory, and cognitive control. The group is part of the Institute of Brain and Behaviour Amsterdam, and maintains many local and international collaborations. The Department provides a vibrant, international research climate with high quality academic staff supported by excellent research facilities, including eye tracking, EEG, and fMRI facilities. It has a strong international reputation, as indicated by excellent research assessments, high quality publications, high standards for teaching and mentoring, and frequent visits by international scientists. We teach in English at Bachelor levels at several VU faculties, as well as the Amsterdam University College. In addition, we run our own two-year Research Masters in Cognitive Neuropsychology with small scale teaching. We offer a fixed term, 2,5-year position in the area of cognition, with a strong emphasis on teaching activities (75%; 25% research). Teaching will be in the areas of cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience and perception at the bachelor and master level. In addition, supervision of student research projects is expected (mainly at the bachelor level).
- Completed PhD-thesis in experimental or cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, cognitive neuropsychology or a relevant related area of expertise
- Demonstrated affinity with teaching (as for example evidenced by earlier teaching activities and good evaluations)
- Sufficiently research active to cater for student research projects
- Excellent English presentation and writing skills
- Valuing collegiality and team spirit
What are we offering?
An assistant professor (UD) appointment for 0.8 fte with an emphasis on teaching-related activities (75%; 25% research). The position is fixed term, for a period of 2.5 years, starting as soon as possible. The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel, salary scale 11 (€ 3747 - € 5127) based on full-time employment and depending on prior experience.
The initial employment contract will affect a period of 1 year, with the possibility of extension.
