Postdoc: Upscaling and co-creating narratives in saline environments

In this interesting postdoc position, through co-creative methods you will improve understanding and application of saline agriculture as a nature-based solution bringing biodiversity and human well-being together in saline landscapes. Using environmental policy analysis and economics, you will conduct research activities in our SaltyBEATS project, funded by Biodiversa+ under the call “Nature-Based Solutions for biodiversity, human well-being and transformative change (BiodivNBS)”. You will work at IVM Environmental Policy Analysis Department

Your duties

  • you will organise farmer need assessment
  • you will conduct ecosystem services mapping in at least two countries
  • you will develop a Virtual Reality game on salinity and biodiversity
  • you will create future scenarios taking into account project outcomes and needs of policy makers and impact investors
  • you will assist in participatory biodiversity monitoring with a farmer in the Netherlands
  • you will collect data with natural science colleagues for evaluating plant and insect diversity and assessing soil characteristics in natural and agricultural saline environments

Jouw profiel

  • you have a PhD degree in environmental social science, or a closely related field (or you are very near to completing your PhD)
  • you have experience with qualitative and participatory approaches for interviews and stakeholder meetings
  • you have a strong interest in nature-based solutions and saline environments
  • it is an advantage if you speak some Dutch

  • a salary of minimum € 3.378,00 (Scale 10.0) and maximum € 5.331,00 (Scale 10.12) gross per month, on a full-time basis. This is based on UFO profile Researcher 4. The exact salary depends on your education and experience.
  • a position for 0.8 FTE. Your employment contract will initially start with a 1-year contract with the possibility to extend with another 2 years.

We also offer you attractive fringe benefits and regulations. Some examples:

  • A full-time 38-hour working week comes with a holiday leave entitlement of 232 hours per year. If you choose to work 40 hours, you have 96 extra holiday leave hours on an annual basis. For part-timers, this is calculated pro rata.
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
  • solid pension scheme (ABP)
  • contribution to commuting expenses
  • optional model for designing a personalized benefits package
